What’s Happening at United Family Services Fall 2008
With school in session we have officially welcomed the fall season- The following events are happening at United Family Services this fall- Come be a part of our family!
VOLUNTEER CONNECTIONS-United Family Services offers hope. That hope is helping to change the future of our community one life at a time. But we don’t do it alone! Each year, more than 250 people volunteer their time to help United Family Services serve community needs. Whether providing general office support, painting a mural, serving on a committee, or accompanying victims of sexual violence and their family to the hospital or The Tree House Children’s Advocacy Center, volunteers are bringing about positive change in the lives of those around them. Come join our team as a volunteer and make a difference!
Time: Tuesday, September 16th from 6:00 to 8:00pm
FAMILY CONNECTIONS- Family Connections is United Family Services’ hour-long tour and information session. Family Connections is designed to give people an overview of the agency’s history and services. On our tour, you’ll hear and see the impact that United Family Services has on the people we serve. You will also be able to tour The Tree House Children’s Advocacy Center.
Time: Thursday, September18th,2008 from 12:00pm to 1:15pm
HOUSING DEFAULT & FORECLOSURE CLINIC-United Family Services’ Consumer Credit & Housing Counseling will be offering a FREE Housing Default/Foreclosure Clinic to assist with foreclosure prevention and counseling efforts for families.Consumer Credit Counseling and Housing counselors can help you with housing default and foreclosure mediation and counseling, the preparation of a detailed working household budget, and assembling and completing required paperwork and documentation.
Time: Tuesday, October 14,2008 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm
Registrants should bring valid driver’s license or state ID, social security card or proof of citizenship, and copy of foreclosure letter or mortgage statement.
BOUNCING BACK AFTER BANKRUPTCY-Time heals…Despite the difficulties, there are some simple things you can do to start re-establishing your good credit.

United Family Services Fall Parenting Classes
Whoever said parenting would be easy?? When problems arise that involve temper tantrums, time outs, and disobedience, do you know how to rearrange the situation to your advantage? “Calming the Adolescent Storm” and “Who’s In Charge Here?” help address these very issues. One in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually assaulted before their 18th birthday. Learn what you can do to help prevent children from being hurt this way.Darkness to Light’s® Stewards of Children is a revolutionary sexual abuse prevention training program that educates adults to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The program believes and teaches that child safety is an adult’s job.This 3-hour, free training program, sponsored by United Family Services and Union Smart Start, integrates the simple principles of choice, consciousness and personal power to promote an understanding of the nature and impact of child sexual abuse, and uses those principles to provide a context for empowered action. The curriculum is direct about holding each adult accountable, and generous in providing powerful, specific support for personal change.
