Date set for Monroe meals tax
Subject to approval by the Union Co. Board of Elections, Monroe City Council has set Tuesday, June 5 as the referendum date for passage of a one percent prepared meals and beverage tax. Proceeds from the tax and those from an existing lodging tax will be used to construct a 40,000 square foot civic center on Skyway Drive at a cost of $8 - 10 million dollars. This facilility would provide badly needed meeting space for community events and cultural activities.
