RED CROSS HEROES CAMPAIGN SMASHES $50,000 GOAL
At their March 4th luncheon, the American Red Cross of Union County announced a smashing success of their Heroes Campaign, surpassing their goal with $52,000 in proceeds.
The Heroes Campaign illustrates the grassroots show of support for the American Red Cross in Union County. Participants are asked to raise $1,000 in the month of March and they come from all walks of life including: businesses, farmers, emergency responders, children, schools, civic groups, and every day citizens.
“This is a good cause,” states Sheriff Eddie Cathey, Heroes Chair for the past three years. “This money stays in Union County and helps our own people with Red Cross services.” This year, the campaign added a second Chair in Commissioner Allan Baucom, expanding the campaign committee. “I thank everyone who helped support this event,” states Mr. Baucom. “It really is a grassroots effort, and I congratulate all the Heroes for their hard work.”
“I am thrilled that we passed our $50,000 goal,” adds Kathy Bragg, executive director. “We have had an unprecedented year with family house fires. There are so many people who need the help of the Red Cross, and we can always rely on this community to support Red Cross services. Thank you to our Campaign Leadership and Heroes – they do the hard work in raising the money.” The Red Cross also would like to thank their media sponsors who have promoted the campaign over the past few weeks: The Enquirer Journal, The County Edge, The Charlotte Observer, WIXE radio and Monroe Mall - the Heroes Kick Off sponsor.
Proceeds from the campaign will go to support local Red Cross services including: disaster relief, blood collections, preparedness training, and military support. If you would like to make a donation, please contact the chapter at 704-283-7402 or log-on to www.unioncountyredcross.org.
