May 14th started off with a light breeze and warm sunshine and fortunately, it stayed that way all day long! Thirty-one foursomes played at Providence Country Club’s beautiful golf course. Over eleven years, the Griffin Motors Golf Tournament has raised over $671,000 to benefit the patients of Hospice of Union County. The reason we hold the tournament is because although we are a Medicare and Medicaid licensed agency, not all of our patients qualify for either of those programs, nor do they all have the money to pay for their care. So we have our golf tournament in May and our holiday auction in November to raise the money for hospice care. All of the money raised goes directly to patient care.

Our sponsors this year included, of course, our Event Sponsor, Griffin Motor Company, as well as our Eagle Sponsors: Aim South Corporation, Christenbury Eye Center, Citizens South Bank, Heritage Funeral Home/Forest Lawn Co. East and the Enquirer Journal and Indian Trail Trader. Our Birdie Sponsors were Edwards Cancer Center at CMC Union, Faulkner’s Drugs, First Charter Bank, Harris Teeter Corporation, KWT Insurance, the Stanford Group, Wal Mart and Wilburn Auto Body Shop. These companies gave graciously to our tournament and we are grateful for their continuing support. Also, we could not have done this without the fine folks at Providence Country Club. They are unfailingly helpful and we are thankful for their support, as well.
