Nov. 6 vote on “home” tax–Give us your opinion
On the Nov. 6 ballot in Union County, voters will have the opportunity to decide on a real estate transfer tax, also
known as the “home tax”. It is a real property transfer tax and will be paid anytime you sell your home, your land, or your business—-and will be paid by the seller. The amount proposed is .4% or $800.00 on a $200,000 house. The school board says that it will raise money for schools but homeowners say that it targets them unfairly. They say that it is not a tax on growth since it is not paid by newcomers coming to the area and buying property. We would love to hear your opinion about the tax. Just click on “Comment” below and tell us how you feel. We will share the outcome of this informal poll before voting day on Nov. 6. Make your voice heard.

Whose bright idea was this…to penalize home sellers?
If the school board wants to raise money this way, they better rethink this idea.
New housing should be paying for school needs and increased infrastructure.

This targets the wrong people. We should be taxing the developers and newcomers coming to the area which is causing the strain on our infrastructure. This is an absolutely absurd proposal. We would like to know what persons are responsible for such a bad idea?

Growth within the county should be able to support itself. New homes bring in new taxes. Either our leaders are squandering our tax dollars or something else is wrong. We need representative who can squeeze our dollars and make the best use of the money they already have. Tax and spend. We need to be more conservative in all phases of our government. That should apply to everything from our budget to the handling of illegal imigrants. They are the real source of most of our problems in Union Co. Send them home. Close and guard our borders and all of us will ultimately benefit from this move. Stop unnecessary welfare. Let these people take the jobs the illegal imigrants currently have. They will feel much better if they have to earn some of the money they spend. We need to make major changes in this country before our freedoms are lost forever.

We should even be trying to implement that tax on developers and newcomers. Big government ideals toward “taxism” will only target the groups you wish it on for limited time, before they come after you with the next new tax under the guise of “we need it for growth.” The new comers bring new tax revenue with them through existing tax channels. It is a falsehood to say we need a new tax. And as stated this new tax will be a burden on existing homeowners in Union Count, including but not limited to eldery trying to downsize, families forced to downsize due to loss of job, military deploying to duty, families surviving dead parent/grandparent who are forced to sell property. THIS TAX IS A BAD IDEA.

The home tax is a stupid idea and Union County residents will be stupid to let it pass. I think home LAND DEVELOPERS should pay the tax — that will keep Union County’s growth rate at a more sane level — look what happened to Weddington and Wesley Chapel because of OUT OF CONTROL development.
