The 44th. Army National Guard Band will be in concert on Tuesday, June 24, at 7:00pm at Austin Auditorium, Wingate University. The concert is free and open to the public and will include musical selections from the full concert band, the Jazz Patriots and the Minutemen. The band is composed of 52 citizen soldiers who, in civilian life, are college students, educators, businessmen and women and professional people. The band has earned numerous awards including Outstanding North Carolina National Guard unit and the Eisenhower trophy as an outstanding Army unit. The program is sponsored by Wingate University and the Union County Community Arts Council.

The Union County Community Arts Council and Central Academy of Technology and Arts will offer a Summer Drama Camp for ages 8 to 12. Dates for the 2-week camp are June 16 - 20 and June 23-27. Two performances of “Sleeping Beauty” will be performed on June 28th.
The cost for the 2-week camp is $200 and the deadline for application is June 6th. The camp runs from 9 am to 3 pm each day. For more information or to receive an application, call 704-283-2784 or email uccac@aol.com

The Union County Community Arts Council is pleased to announce 3 of the many events sponsored by the Council during the month of October:
1. Currently on Exhibit at the Arts Council Gallery at 120 N. Main Street, Monroe, is Oscar Ortiz: The Art. This is in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 through October 15.
2. From Sept. 29-October 9, the Children’s Theater of Charlotte will be presenting in Union county Elementary Schools, “If You give a Pig a Party” . In this delightful tale, little piggy learns that you can’t have a party without friends and having friends is the perfect reason to have a party!
3. From Oct. 9-25 the Open Dreams Ensemble will present in the Union county Title 1 schools, “The Amazing Adventure of Anna Marie”, an origianl story dramatizing the power of courage, determination and imagination.

The Union County Community Arts Council is accepting applications for its Grassroots Arts Program for the 2007-08 year. Grants will be issued for cultural arts projects, events and services that occur between July 1, 2007 and June 30, 2008. Funds are available to nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations whose purpose is to promote and develop diverse cultural arts programming in Union County.
A program of the N.C. Dept. of Cultural Resources, the Grassroots Arts Program grants have been offered by the Union County Community Arts Council since 1987. A committee consisting of council board members and Union county representatives will review grant requests. Funding decisions will be made by the board of directors and grants awarded when the N.C. General Assembly adopts its 2007-08 state budget. For more information or to receive a grant application, contact the Union County Community Arts Council at 704-283-2784 or e-mail uccac@aol.com. Applications must be received no later than noon Aug. 30.
