Question: How do I know how much house I can afford as I begin the home buying process?
Answer: Pre-qualification is a very important step, and the step that first-time home buyers dread the most. Qualifying to buy a home is pretty easy and requires relatively little work for you. Pre-qualification is what gives you buying power and allows you to make an offer on your dream home when you’ve found it. More importantly, pre-qualification will let you know how much your new home will REALLY cost — in monthly payments. A $150,000 or $300,000 home doesn’t mean a lot to most buyers, but $1200 per month and $2500 per month are tangibles that everyone can understand. After your lender pre-qualifies you, ask them for a “payment table” that shows you a rough estimate of TOTAL monthly payment based on purchase price. Pick you payment, and you know the price range to shop in. Then call 704-221-7363 or email me at bobparker@carolina.rr.com and let’s get shopping!

A Friendship Quilt that has been crafted by a group of ladies, headed by Phyllis Shafer & Peggy Kiker will be raffled. After two and a half months the Baptist women crafted a beautiful quilt that will be raffled with the proceeds going to the Restoration House. Restoraton House opened in 2000, as a shelter and Christian counseling service for former inmates trying to make the transition to life outside prison.
Tickets will be sold through late January. Tickets cost $1 each or six for $5. To purchase, call 704-289-5514 or 704-283-6896

Question: When listing my home, all Realtors are alike, right? Does it matter whom I choose?
Answer: Choosing the right agent for the job can make the difference between a sale and no sale. First of all, an agent should be a Realtor signifying they adhere to the ethical code of the National Assoc. of Realtors. Secondly, a good Realtor needs to be an adept communicator and negotiator, who can manage the transaction, be patient and explore all options until the deal closes. You will also want a Realtor who is an aggressive marketer, who will get a high amount of exposure for your home, locally, nationally and internationally. And finally, an experienced and knowledgeable agent is a must…especially in the county in which you are trying to sell your home. I have been a Realtor for 15 years and have successfully managed, negotiated, marketed and sold homes in Mecklenburg & Union Counties. Please call your trusted advisor at 704-236-7386 or email me at macyslink@carolina.rr.com to get your home sold.

Question: I’m just now starting to think of buying my first home. I don’t know where to start or what to ask, but I’m afraid that my questions will seem stupid.
Answer: THERE ARE NO STUPID QUESTIONS! In fact, quite often those buyers that feel they know the least ask the BEST questions. More important is choosing a Real Estate Agent who will answer those questions and guide you step by step through the home-buying process when you are ready. It is vital to choose a knowledgeable, experienced Realtor who knows the County in which you want to live. I have been assisting Buyers for almost 20 years in Union County and look forward to answering any questions that you may have. Call me anytime at 704-574-5896 or email me at peglyn@carolina.rr.com. SO ASK AWAY!

Hospice of Union County will be hosting the Annual Tree of Love in the Monroe Mall from now until December 23. For a $5 donation anyone can receive an ornament to take home, as well as place their loved ones name on an angel ornament to be hung on the tree in the mall.
The tree is staffed by volunteers throughout the Christmas Season, including staff and patient support volunteers, as well as groups from various churches and civic organizations. It is open from 10am-8pm, Monday through Saturday and 1-7pm on Sunday.
Several Hospice families have actually created sets of the ornaments for themselves over previous holidays and one grandmother said that her grandchildren always want to "hang Grandpa's ornaments first".
If you have any questions about the tree or Hospice services, please feel free to contact Hospice of Union County at 704-292-2100 or at their website,

Question: Is now REALLY a good time to buy a house?
Answer: YES, history was made with the 2008 election. NOW, make your own history…become a homeowner!
If you’ve stalled the home-buying process because of uncertainties, than read these facts and call me. You could be celebrating the Holidays in your very own place!
Mortgage loans are readily available and at excellent rates. There is a lot of flexibility in programs, qualifying and opportunities. For example, I’m loving FHA loans. The most appealing features are easy credit qualifying, low closing costs and low down payments. The interest rates are expected to remain low, but like every other aspect of the economy, they’re subject to the volatility of the market. It’s important for Home Buyers to understand that rates are currently at historic lows and mortgage money is available.
Don’t just hope to bea homeowner…Secure your future and BE ONE!
